This week, Billie Jo from Out of The Woods is featuring guest writers on her blog. I was very honoured to be asked to answer a few questions and write a short story.

It has been a long time since I’ve attempted a short story – I have a real problem adhering to word limits, the stories just want to keep getting bigger for me! But, I did 🙂

I’ve been reading a bit of sci-fi lately, which inspired my story. So many stories set hundreds or thousands of years in the future refer to “Old Earth” or “Earth That Was”. I began to think what would really happen when humans begin to colonise the galaxy and the more that I thought about it, the more I think that of all the sci-fi books and television shows, Joss Whedon’s Firefly was the one that got it right (that and the fact that it’s supremely awesome). So I chose to write a story that reflects what I think would happen.
